Prolink.gg:The Social Network For Gamers
A social network for gamers, Prolink.gg is taking off after winning second place and $10,000 at the 2018 Utah Entrepreneur Challenge in April. The statewide competition is managed by the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute and sponsored by Zions Bank.
In addition to launching their mobile apps recently, Prolink.gg’s beta site has over 150,000 visitors and they expect over 500,000 with a new marketing push.
Founders Derek Omori, a business student at UVU, and Cameron Adamson, a BYU alumni, met while working at a Bay Area startup called Peek Travel.
After noticing Adamson’s gaming mouse and a conversation later, Omori and Adamson realized that they both played and followed the same video games, after having known each other for several months. Having worked for a startup they were interested in having their own one day. Recognizing the tremendous growth of Esports and the normalization of video game culture, they started looking for opportunities in the space.
After several different ideas, they realized that the serendipity that had sparked their friendship was also a problem that others were facing. There was no social network in video games that allowed you to learn what games your friends, coworkers or even family members play. In September, 2017 Prolink.gg was born.
“More than 150 million people are playing video games, and that’s just in the United States. These people currently have no way to find each other outside of random conversations or sites that focus on connecting gamertags to each other rather than the real people they represent,” Omori said. “We’re on the verge of a new age in video gaming media. For the first time ever, gaming platforms have built-in capabilities for you to make your own clips, and share your own highlights and achievements. There are millions of clips out there with no suitable platform and audience to share them with.”
Prolink gives users the ability to create a personal profile that features their gamertags for the games they play and gives them a place to share clips and highlights from those games with their friends. It also incorporates community pages for hundreds of games where communities can gather to discuss the games they love and make new friends with the same interests.
